General Information
Please be aware: The New York State Court System does not ask prospective jurors for financial information such as credit card, bank account or personal information such as the names and ages of your family members. Do not provide this kind of information to anyone claiming to represent the court system. If you receive this type of request, please contact our office during normal business hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 344-2550 Ext. 2223, or local law enforcement if you feel threatened.
Recording Devices:
Devices with the ability to record audio, still images or video are not permitted in court facilities; cell phone containing cameras are permitted in the building but must be turned off during all court proceedings including juror orientation. Camera functions on phones cannot be used at any time inside the building.
Jury Call In:
Information for summoned trial jurors is also available on our recorded message at 585-344-2550 Ext. 2296 beginning at 5:00 p.m. on the last business day before your service is to begin. Prospective grand jurors do not have to call in and should report on the date and time listed on their summons.
Parking:
Parking is available in the parking lots at the rear of the building and in surrounding parking areas. Please parked in marked parking spots only.
Emergency:
If you are unable to report due to any emergency, or if an emergency requires that you be contacted during your service, please call the Commissioner of Jurors office at 585-344-2550 ext. 2223. For emergency cancellation information, please listen to WBEN 930 AM radio.
Court Hours:
Juror hours each day will be approximately 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with periodic breaks during the day. Jurors are required to sign in daily upon reporting.
Court Security and Dress Code:
All jurors must enter the Courts Facility through the main entrance which faces east onto the driveway. The Courts Facility opens at 8:30 a.m. You will be asked to pass through a metal detector. Weapons and dangerous instruments are not permitted, security officers will determine what is allowed in the courts facility and you may have to check items with security upon entering the courts facility. Gentlemen are required to remove their hats before entering a courtroom. Please dress in a manner that is respectful of the courts and your fellow jurors.
Meals:
Jurors are supplied meals only during deliberation, all other meals are your own responsibility. There are many restaurants located in the downtown area. A refrigerator is provided in the jury assembly room. You may bring a water bottle into the courtroom. Food and beverage are permitted in the assembly room, you may bring lunch is you choose. Vending machines with cold beverages are available on the 2nd floor.
Wi-Fi: The Genesee County Courts Facility has free Wi-Fi available for use in the jury assembly room.
Payphone:
A payphone is located in the lobby on the first floor.
