General Information
Telephone Standby:
Your standby service is for a period of five days or less, normally commencing on a Monday. If you are a selected juror on a trial, your service is complete when the trial finishes. If you are not a selected juror after having gone through the jury selection process in a courtroom, your service is complete unless there are other jury trials scheduled for the day you are here, which may subject you to further jury selection.
Parking:
Handicap Parking Arrangements may be made by phoning the Commissioner of Jurors Office at 315-798-5985 prior to your term date.
For jury service at the Oneida County Courthouse in Utica, ALL JUROR PARKING is at the Kennedy Parking Garage, located on Broadway Street, next to Utica City Hall. A Utica city bus departs from the garage every ten to fifteen minutes to transport you to and from the courthouse. Please bring any parking stub you may receive to the courthouse with you for validation.
Jurors selected to serve on a trial will receive a permit from courthouse personnel to park in the county parking area adjacent to the courthouse.
Parking for other courthouses in the county will be addressed on the telephone alert message system.
PLEASE AVOID PARKING ON CITY STREETS
Absence/Emergency:
In the event of an emergency which prevents you from reporting, please telephone the Commissioner of Jurors Office as soon as possible.
In the event of a weather-related emergency, you should phone the telephone alert message system in the morning prior to leaving for the courthouse; or, if you are a selected juror on a trial, please follow the instructions given to you by the presiding judge.
Court Hours:
September - May: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
June - August 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Court Security:
For the safety of all concerned, the courthouse is staffed by Sheriff personnel and the entrance is equipped with magnetometers, through which each juror must pass on his or her way into the courthouse. Certain items are prohibited in the courthouse (for example: pocket knives, mace, firearms, scissors...) and will be confiscated by security personnel upon entering the building and returned to you when you leave. You may wish to leave any such articles in your vehicle.
Meals:
You will receive at least an hour for lunch, somewhere between the hours of noon and two o clock. Menus from some local restaurants are located on the bulletin board outside the Commissioner of Jurors Office.
Verification of Attendance:
Jurors are required to sign in for each day they appear. At your request, a proof of service certificate showing your dates of attendance will be provided to you. You may obtain this daily, weekly or at the end of your term of service from the Commissioner of Jurors Office. If your service is complete and you later learn that your employer requires a proof of service certificate, please telephone the Commissioner of Jurors Office and we will mail or fax the certificate to you.
Telephone Access:
There is a telephone located in the Commissioner's Office for use by jurors.
