Jurors on telephone standby beginning

Friday, November 20, 2009

Last updated: November 20, 2009

Find your juror ID # located on the fifth line of your summons. If your juror ID # is from B0001 through B0250, report to the Central Jury Room, located at 126 Stuyvesant Place, Monday, November 23rd, at 8:45am. 126 Stuyvesant Place is located directly behind the Richmond County Supreme Court. If your juror ID # is from B0251 through B0700, do not report to any court. Follow your normal routine and call again on Monday, November 23rd, after 4:30pm, for further instructions. Thank you.

General Information

PLEASE BE AWARE: The New York State Court System does not ask prospective jurors for financial information such as credit card, and bank account or personal information such as the names and ages of your family members. Do not provide this kind of information to anyone claiming to represent the court system. If you receive this type of request, please contact your local Commissioner of Jurors.

Telephone Standby:
You must call the telephone number on your summons on the date and time given to you on your summons. A 24 hour recorded message will tell you when and where to report. If you are not told to report, you should follow your normal routine and call again when instructed.

Selected Trial Jurors:
If after reporting for jury service you are selected as a juror on a specific trial, you will be given a case number and put on standby. The jury clerk will instruct you as to when to call our standby system.

Parking:
We recommend using mass transit. There is a municipal parking lot located on the corner of St. Marks Place and Hyatt Street near the Central Jury Room and Supreme Court. Please be aware that this lot is currently under construction and spaces are limited. If you use the municipal parking lot, the green section allows you to put in for up to 12 hours of parking. You must display your parking receipt in your front windshield. Please be careful to read the signs to make sure you do not park in the D.O.T. PERMIT PARKING ONLY area. There will also be a juror shuttle (BLACK SUV with STATE EMBLEM), operating from 8am to 9am between the ferry terminal parking lot B (opposite the 9/11 memorial) and the Central Jury Division. In order to board the Juror Shuttle you must present your Juror Summons. Parking and transportation fees are not reimbursed.

Absence/Emergency:
If an illness or emergency prevents you from reporting, please call our office, at (718) 675-8990 before 10:00 a.m. on the day you are to report.

Court Hours:
Court normally operates from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Lunch is from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. You will be advised before you leave each day exactly what time to appear the following day if your service is still necessary.

Court Security:
The juror entrance is located at 126 Stuyvesant Place. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., magnetometers are in place in the courthouse, and jurors are not exempt from the screening process. Weapons or dangerous instruments of any kind are prohibited in court buildings.

Telephone Access:
There are pay phones available in all court locations. Cellular phones are permitted in the central jury area provided that you do not disturb your fellow jurors or the jury operations. Use of cellular phones is prohibited in court rooms and during jury selections.

Meals:
Lunch and dinner are furnished to deliberating jurors only. All other meals are your own responsibility. There are restaurants and delicatessens in the area.

Verification of attendance:
Jurors are required to complete the sign-in sheet located in the front of the jury room when they report each day. A Certificate of Service is available for all jurors to give to their employers upon their completion of service. Should you have any questions, the staff will be glad to answer them.
