General Information
TELEPHONE STANDBY: Jury service for trial jurors is subject to daily phone call. Jurors must either phone or check the web page after 6:00 PM the evening before the term date for further reporting instructions. A recorded message provides daily reporting information or changes. Report when instructed or continue to call each evening until dismissed.
Telephone standby does not apply to Grand Jurors. Grand Jurors must report as scheduled.
COURT HOURS: Court hours are generally 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. You will have a lunch break and periodic breaks throughout the day.
The Courthouse opens at 8:30 AM. Jurors may enter the building 15 minutes prior to the scheduled reporting time.
DIRECTIONS from ROUTE 17: Exit 105-A to Route 42 South. At the first traffic light turn right onto High Street; then left onto Bushnell Avenue. Juror parking is located on the right side of Bushnell Avenue.
PARKING: Jurors may park in the county lot on Bushnell Avenue located diagonally across from the Courthouse. Parking is limited - please allow sufficient time to locate parking. Additional parking is available across from the Sullivan County Government Center, 100 North Street, three blocks from the Courthouse.
COURT SECURITY: All jurors entering the Courthouse will be scanned through a magnetometer. Weapons or sharp instruments, including scissors and pocket knives, are prohibited. We appreciate your patience and cooperation in keeping our Courts safe.
RECORDING DEVICES: Use of cell phones or devices with the ability to record are not permitted in courtrooms or jury deliberating rooms. Camera phones are prohibited in the Courthouse.
MEALS: Lunches may be purchased at area restaurants or you may bring a bag lunch. Meals for sequestered jurors will be provided by the Court. The Jury Assembly Room on the lower level of the Courthouse has a juror lounge for use during breaks, vending machines, a coffee area, refrigerator, coat racks and restrooms.
VERIFICATION OF ATTENDANCE: If your employer requires proof of service, request a Statement of Service from the Commissioner of Jurors Office.
HANDICAPPED ACCESS: The Courthouse is handicapped accessible. An elevator is available. If you require additional assistance, please advise the jury staff at any time during your service.
ASSISTIVE LISTENING DEVICES: Assistive listening devices are available for those with hearing impairments. Please advise the jury staff of your needs.
ABSENCE/EMERGENCY: If you are unable to report for either Grand Jury or Trial Jury service due to illness or an emergency, call the Commissioner of Jurors Office at (845) 794-4088 as soon as possible. Emergency closings of the Court will be announced on local radio stations.
INTERNET ACCESS: The Jury Assembly Room has a PC with internet access and wireless access for laptops available for your use during breaks.
NON-RESIDENCY: If you are no longer a resident of Sullivan County, you must provide this office with proof of the change of residency. You may either mail or fax a copy of your current driver's license or non-driver ID which indicates your current address. If you do not have a valid driver's license, call the Jury Office to determine which document will be accepted as proof of change of residency. Copies of leases, property tax bills or utility bills are not acceptable as proof of change of residence. If you were a registered voter in Sullivan County, it is also recommended that you contact Sullivan County Board of Elections to advise them of your address change as well.
PLEASE NOTE: The NYS Unified Court System does not ask prospective jurors for financial information such as credit card, bank account, social security numbers or personal information by mail or phone. Do not provide this information to anyone claiming to represent the Court System. If you receive this type of request, please contact this office immediately.
