THIS MESSAGE IS FOR TRIAL JURORS SUMMONED FOR THE TERM TO BEGIN ON MONDAY,
NOVEMBER 16, 2009.

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE MESSAGE.


THE TRIAL FOR NOVEMBER 16, 2009 HAS BEEN SETTLED OUT OF COURT.

ALL JURORS ARE NOW DISMISSED FROM YOUR SERVICE AS A JUROR. YOU WILL RECEIVE SERVICE CREDIT WHICH MEANS THAT YOUR NAME WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE JURY POOL FOR AT LEAST SIX YEARS.

General Information

Telephone Standby
All trial jurors are on standby and report to the Wayne County Hall of Justice only when instructed by recorded message or on the website as listed in the summons. Listen to or read the message carefully. Please report promptly at the time indicated in the message. The telephone call-in number is: 1-800-724-8128.

Parking
Two hour parking in designated areas is strictly enforced. Public parking is available in parking lots on Montezuma Street and Water Street two blocks from the courthouse and also along sections of Broad Street. Observe the signs for areas which have limited parking. Parking tickets can not be dismissed by the Court. Two handicap parking spots are located in the front of the Hall of Justice.

Directions
From Route 31, turn onto Route 14 North, turn at the first left onto Water St, turn at the third right onto Broad St, the Hall of Justice is 3 blocks on the right.
From Route 14 South, turn right onto Montezuma St and proceed through the first traffic light(William St), turn right onto Broad St, the Hall of Justice is on the right.

Absence/Emergency
If an illness or emergency prevents you from reporting, please call the Jury office at (315)946-5453 at 9:00 a.m. on the day you are to report.

Postponements/Excusals
You are entitled to one postponement for up to six months. Be prepared to give the month that you will be available. You are not entitled to a second postponement. You may be entitled to a two year exemption for medical, caregiver, financial, transportation reasons or if you are unable to communicate in or understand the English language. Please call (315)946-5453 for either a postponement or an excusal.

Court Hours:
Court normally operates from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with lunch hours and breaks throughout the day. Court sessions do not often continue beyond 5:00 p.m. except when a jury is deliberating.

Court Security:
The Hall of Justice is open to the public at 8:15 a.m. Magnetometers are located at the entrance of the building and jurors are required to be screened. Weapons, dangerous instruments of any kind, items which may be considered dangerous, cell phones, cameras, computers and recording equipment are prohibited in the court building and will be confiscated and held by court security during your visit in the court building. Purses and backpacks should be emptied of unnecessary items to speed up security processing. Devices with the ability to record audio, still images or video are NOT premitted in court facilities, this includes cell phones with these features.

Meals:
Meals are furnished only to deliberating jurors. All other meals are your own responsibility. Restaurants and fast food establishments are within a mile of the courthouse. You may bring a bagged lunch, however, no food or drink is allowed in the courtroom.

Proof of Attendance and Payment
The Summons you received is proof to your employer that you have been summoned for jury service. You should contact your employer immediately upon your receipt of the summons and obtain a copy of your employer's policy with regard to jury service. You may contact the Jury office for a copy of the Employer/Employee handbook. You will receive a verification of attendance when you arrive for jury service and one at the end of service for the additional days. Payment for jury service is explained on your summons. The jury fee per day of service is $40 if entitled.

If you are disabled or hearing impaired, call the Jury Office immediately at (315)946-5453 (Relay Call 1-800-662-1220) to arrange special accommodations.

Phone/Computer policy
There is a pay phone in the waiting room located on the first floor which is available to the public. Cell phones and computers are not allowed, they will be confiscated by security and returned when you leave the building.

Dress code
Wear clothing that is respectful of the court. Do NOT wear shorts, cut off shirts or shorts, tank tops etc.

The Hall of Justice is a NON-SMOKING building.
